Terms of service
These terms apply when you use 10 Sentences. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them. The site is run by Muhammad Naufil (contact: [email protected]).
The service
10 Sentences is a website for learning German vocabulary: flashcards, real YouTube clips, exercises with corrections, chats, stories and a learning plan. Most of it is free; Pro, a paid subscription, takes away the free plan’s daily limits. We may add, change or remove features, and the site may sometimes be unavailable. There is no right to a particular feature or to the site being available at all times.
Pro and payments
A new account gets a free week with everything unlimited. After it, the free plan has daily limits, and Pro takes them away; the limits and what Pro includes are shown on the Pro page. Pro is a subscription, paid monthly or every three months, at the price shown at checkout.
Payments are handled by Polar (polar.sh), which sells the subscription to you as our reseller: your purchase is made with Polar, under Polar’s terms, and Polar charges any taxes, sends your receipts and handles refunds. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time in your subscription settings (linked from the Pro page); Pro then lasts until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Your account
- You sign in with Google or with an email link. One account per person.
- Keep access to your Google account or email inbox safe; whoever can sign in there can use your account.
- You need to be at least 16 years old to create an account.
Using it fairly
Please don’t:
- post anything illegal, hateful, threatening or sexual, or harass anyone in chats;
- share other people’s personal data, or your own contact details, in chats;
- try to break, overload or get around the site’s security;
- copy the site’s content in bulk, or access it with bots or scrapers;
- create accounts to manipulate the leaderboard.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.
The AI features
Corrections, explanations, translations and the chat partners are produced by AI. The chat partners are AI, not people. AI can be wrong: treat corrections as help with learning, not as certified answers, and double-check anything important, like a job application or an official letter. 10 Sentences is not a certified language course and doesn’t lead to a qualification.
Your content
What you write stays yours. You allow us to store and process it as far as we need to run the site for you: to save your progress, show your chats, and send your text to the AI services described in our privacy policy to correct and answer it.
Other people’s content
- The video clips belong to their creators. They play through YouTube’s own player, and we credit the channel with every clip. If you own a clip and want it removed, email [email protected].
- Word meanings come from Wiktionary under the CC BY-SA licence, credited where they appear.
- The rest of the site, including the exercises, stories, texts and design, belongs to 10 Sentences.
Ending
You can stop using 10 Sentences at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing [email protected]. We may close accounts that break these terms, or stop the service; if we stop it, we’ll tell you by email in good time where we can.
Liability
We are liable without limit for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and where the law makes us liable regardless of fault (for example under the German Product Liability Act). For slight negligence, we are liable only for breaching an obligation essential to the contract (one that makes the service possible at all and that you may rely on), and then only for the damage typical of and foreseeable for this kind of contract. Otherwise we are not liable.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you by email about changes that matter. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.
Law
German law applies. If you use the site as a consumer, the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live still apply to you.
